In this article, we are going to talk about what these top anti-aging or lifting and firming creams should have. If you have read the first article, you should know that collagen and elastin fibres are very important for skin. These fibres are what provide our skin elasticity and strength to make it look younger, fresh, and stretchable.
Skin firming and lifting products claim to make your skin tighter; some live up to this promise, but nothing is permanent. Most of these anti-aging products contain what we call “foam-forming” formulas. As the name suggests, these products create a film on your skin, which make the skin feel tighter.
Now when you get the feeling that your skin is tighter, you feel that the product is working. In reality, that is not really true and the effect is just temporary. It doesn’t really provide your skin any benefit. Now i’m going to discuss what works, so you could get (or at least get close to) the results you want.
1. The first important fibre that you must pay attention to is collagen. Collagen supports your skin and provides strength to it. However, it doesn’t restore the elasticity of the skin. There are many good skin-products in the market that contain a lot of antioxidants. These products, containing potent antioxidants, can make your skin produce collagen.
2. Next thing on our list is sunscreen. In our previous article, we saw how sun can damage both collagen and elastin present in your skin. When you are old, once you lose elastin, you don’t get it back. You body just doesn’t make it anymore. Therefore, you should wear sunscreen (with SPF of at least 15) whenever you head out. Oh, and don’t forget to apply the sunscreen to your neck!
3. Use an exfoliant daily. Get an exfoliant containing salicylic acid (BHA) or glycolic acid (AHA). Any of these two will exfoliate, smooth, and firm your skin.
4. Topical retinol (Vitamin A) application helps a lot. Night creams that contain vitamin A help quite a bit. They help the elastin that is already present in your skin.
5. Lastly, there are always medical procedures available at your disposal. Laser therapies have had great skin-firming results. They are however expensive, but the results you get are far better than those you get with anti-aging or skin lifting creams.
The best options is to try the recommended anti-aging products, and see the results you get. If they don’t work well for you, then it’s better to save that money and go for laser procedures provided by a qualified dermatologist.
