Some years ago, foundations were not very advanced, and didn’t have many of the awesome features we desired. Those foundations lacked ingredients that provided protection from the sun, did not contain moisturizing ingredients, were too greasy, cakey, and were very unmanageable.

However, modern foundations have come a long way. Now we have foundations that provide varying coverage, consistency, light-as-air feeling, protection from sun, no greasy feeling and many more features. 7 Different Kinds of Make-up Foundations

Let’s now look at some of the different types of foundations that are available in the market these days, and what they have to offer to us.

  1. Tinted moisturizer – The first one of our list here is the tinted moisturizer. If you do not want much of coverage, but still want to even out your skin tone, then this is the foundation you need. Your skin feels very normal after application; it feels as if nothing is there (very light weight). Another important feature of this kind of foundation is that it already contains moisturizer. If your normal routine consists of applying moisturizer before applying foundation, you can skip the moisturizer part. This foundation contains all the moisturizing stuff you need. If you have a busy schedule, and don’t have much time on your hand, this one can definitely save you some time.
  2. Whipped foundation (air-spray type) – Next we are going to talk about what is called a whipped foundation (also called spray foundation). Container of this foundation includes foundation mixed with some air (hence the name whipped). Inclusion of air in the foundation results in easier application. You can just spray the foundation directly onto your face and touch-up a little with the brush. This type of foundation is really good for individuals with dry skin or those who have a lot of wrinkles on their face. Those with wrinkles know the problems they face when they apply normal foundation; yes caking in the wrinkle lines. This foundation can help you overcome that problem. They are slightly more expensive than most of the other foundations you will come across.
  3. Liquid foundations – this is by far the most common type of foundation that you will come across. The reason why many people use it is because of its ease of application. They apply really smoothly; with the help of a dense foundation brush or just your fingers! You can even apply it well with a sponge; especially if you wet it with water a little. Liquid foundations come in all kinds of foundation. You can select them based on coverage, lasting ability, sun protection, moisturizing ability, and many more. Furthermore, because of the popularity of this type of foundation, and because people care more about their skin now days, manufacturers have started using organic ingredients in the formation process. This is the type of foundation you will find most useful, and we have dedicated a major part of this website to the discussion of this type of foundation. 4. Cream-to-powder foundations – this type of foundations are designed with a slightly different yet very good concept in mind. It comes in liquid form, and once applied to skin, it transforms into powder quickly! Isn’t that just amazing? It completely eliminates the process of applying pressed powder after your normal foundation application. Another notable feature of this kind of foundation is that it feels just as natural as your skin. Furthermore, it doesn’t clog your pores! Most of these foundations also contain vitamins (especially A and E), which help keep your skin healthy.
  5. Mineral foundation – this type of foundation are also becoming very popular these days. You know that science is advancing very rapidly now days, especially when it comes to developing beauty products. With more and more research, and sea full of new information, scientists have now developed mineral foundation which does not containing many of the ingredients found in other types of foundations. Most ingredients that it contains are inert minerals. Absence of “chemicals” makes this type of foundation a perfect choice for ladies with sensitive or allergic skin. It creates a special and flawless appearance one applied.
  6. Concealer – Last but not the least, we are going to talk about concealers. These are very thick and provide full coverage. Some of them are even tinted to provide a color. They are mainly used to mask problems with the skin, such as pimples, blemishes, under-eye smudges, redness etc. Many well-known make-up artists recommend applying concealer before you apply your regular foundation. This way you get even skin tone and flawless appearance.

Makeup Forever HD Invisible Cover Foundation

Manufactured by a world renowned company, this foundation contains oil-free formula which provides medium to full coverage. I just love the way it masks the facial imperfections while remaining completely invisible on your skin.

This foundation also has the ability to withstand harsh and bright lights. There are more than 20 different shades available. Now, for pale skin, you have to determine whether you have a pink or yellow undertone. For pink undertone, I would suggest 107, 110 or 115 shade. And for yellow, you might want to try 117 and see how that looks.

Revlon Colorstay – Ivory

This drugstore foundation is very affordable and works as good as the other ones. You want to try to ivory shade if you have pale skin. One advantage of this foundation is that it goes well with all skin types.

Whether you have oily, dry, combination, or normal skin, this foundation will stay and make you look great. It comes in 12 different shades and provides medium to full coverage.

This formula incorporates “Time Release Technology” which takes care of the excess oil, shine, or dryness.

Lancôme Renergie Lift Foundation

Best Foundation for Pale and Dry Skin

best drugstore foundation for pale skin

When we think of foundations for pale and dry skin, the first product that comes to mind is Huda Beauty’s FauxFilter. As most of you might know, Huda Kattan released this full coverage foundation.

A lot of people I know have tried this foundation and it has worked really well for them. It’s good heavy-duty foundation that will cover all sorts of blemishes and uneven skin tones. Another best part is that It comes 30 shades you can pick from.

This foundation is quite thick and pigmented so you only need a small amount (pea size). One bottle of it will last you a long time.

So why is this foundation also the best for dry skin? It’s because it contains centella asiatica and argan oil to give you the extra moisture. It’s one of the best foundations for pale and dry skin out there.

Best Foundation for Pale Skin with Yellow Warm Undertones

Bobbi Brown skin foundation is a great foundation for ladies with pale skin and yellow undertones.

Before the nineties, majority of the foundations in the marker were pink-based and didn’t work well with pale skin with yellow warm undertones. That all changed when Bobbi Brown launched the stick foundations which were yellow based. These stick foundations worked wonders for people with pale skin and yellowish undertones.

It’s a wonderful production for dry skin as it has ingredients to provide enough moisture and control the oil build-up throughout the day.

Best Foundation for Pale Skin with Pink Undertones

For pale skin with pink undertones, I’d recommend NARS Velvet Matte foundation stick.

It’s a good foundation that works well on pale skin with pink undertones. Pink undertones are also referred to as cool complexions.

NARS has a lot of products in their foundation line that are based on pink, but this their latest product that is much better than the ones before. It provides full coverage, is easy to build-up, and give you a matte finish. Give it a try.

Best Foundation for Pale and Oily Skin

For oily skin you need something that won’t clog the pores and will not make the skin oiliness problem worse. For this type of skin, I recommend Too Faced Born This Way. It’s a great product that is non—comedogenic. Non-comedogenic means that it won’t clog your pores and is good for sensitive skin.

A foundation that provides moisturization is a plus. This foundation provides that moisturization without the oil. It contains hyaluronic acid and coconut water which are the oil alternatives.

Best Foundation for Very Pale Skin

For a very pale skin, if the products mentioned above haven’t worked for you, I’d recommend Illamasqua Skin Base foundation. If you have had a hard time finishing a foundation that is light enough for use, then you want to check out their lightest shade available (01).

This foundation is so light that it can also be used as a mixer. You can use it to light a formula that is otherwise too dark for use.

Best Foundation for Pale Dry Skin

If you have pale and dry skin, you need a foundation that can provide the right tone, enough coverage and moisture to keep your skin healthy. All of this can be achieved with Giorgio Armani’s Luminous silk foundation.

It’s a great foundation that has many shades specifically for pale skin. It provides good moisturization and a nice glow. What makes this foundation special is that it has light-reflecting particles that give you a silk-like finish.

Best Lightweight Foundation for Pale Skin

A foundation that is lightweight yet provides enough coverage and proper skin tone is hard to find. This is a problem often faced by people who have pale skin and don’t want something heavy on their face.

MAC Studio’s face and body foundation is a great product that work on this type of skin quite well. MAC is known for making awesome skin-care and beauty products and they have a good reputation in the industry.

This foundation is a good classic and everyone should have it in their make-up bag. It’s very lightweight and gives you a sheer coverage for the beautiful complexion.

This is a great product that you can apply and create layers. As a result, what you get is a perfect full coverage that one wants from full coverage foundations.

A lot of my friends have used this product in heat, cold and humid environments and this product has lasted on the skin for quite a long time. Based on Estee Lauder’s specs, it’s expected to last for up to 24 hours!

Best Cruelty Free Foundation for Pale Skin

Cruelty free products are hard to find because even till this date companies still use animal testing to analyze their products for efficiencies and adverse reactions. This causes unwanted pain and suffering to animal which most of us are not comfortable with.

The good thing is that we have options. There are companies that produce product that are absolutely cruelty-free. Hourglass’ Vanish Seamless Finish liquid foundation is one great product that meets these criteria. It’s cruelty-free, covers imperfections and blemishes perfectly and give you a nice glow.

Best Foundation for Pale Acne Prone Skin

Acne prone skin needs foundation that won’t clog the pores, will absorb some oil and conceal the acne scars properly. One product that comes to mind is Clinique’s anti-blemish solutions liquid makeup foundation.

People with sensitive skin are more prone to redness, itching, acne, and even eczema in some cases. It is true, as it lasted for 7 to 8 hours on my face before I could see any shine. However, some friends have had shine appear slightly earlier (in about 6-7 hours). Regardless of all that, I still think that it is one of the best foundations available out there for oily skin. The finish it provides is just amazing and looks so natural. It is the liquid foundation I highly recommend.

Application is super easy as well; you can just apply it with your fingers. One of the good things about liquid foundations is that you can apply them with fingers, sponge or foundation brush. For this product, however, using a sponge isn’t recommended.

All of the skin problems that we just talked about require that you apply foundation to get even skin tone. Now if you have an oily skin, it makes it even more challenging to apply foundation. Before you can even apply foundation, you have to make sure that you have the right foundation for your skin.

Problems Foundation Face With Oily Skin

So what is it about oily skin that makes applying foundation a challenge? Oil produced by your skin can cause a lot of trouble for the makeup you wear. It can break down your foundation; as a result your foundation makeup fades away and wears off really quick. Worst of all is that it gives you the cakey look as you go on with your day. If you don’t take care of the oil, it causes extra shine on chin, forehead and nose (t-zone).

Selecting a Good Liquid Foundation for Oily Skin

Some year ago, there was no solution to this problem. However, as of today, we have plenty of liquid foundations that are designed specifically for oily skins. When selecting a foundation for oily skin, you want to make sure that you select a mattifying formula. It will absorb extra oil from your skin, control shine, and provide matte finish all day along. Long-wearing foundation is also a very good option. No matter which foundation you select, make sure you pick the one that’s oil-free and doesn’t clog pores.

Powder and mineral foundations also do a decent job when it comes to controlling oil and shine. However, these foundations don’t provide much of coverage when compared to liquid foundations.

Below is a list of some of the best foundations that work really well with oily skin. You should try them out and see how much of a difference they make to your skin.

It also contains SPF-15, providing protection from harmful UV rays. For this foundation, creators claim that the staying power of it is 12 hours. However, for me, it did not last that long. When I applied it, it lasted about 8-9 hours and then wore off. So I guess it’s different for different individuals. Despite all that, it is a perfect foundation for sensitive skin.

Liquid or Powder Foundation: Which One Is Better?

Which one should I use, liquid or powder foundation? That is one question I hear all the time. For someone just beginning to try makeup on their skin, this could be a very difficult question. So in this article, I will state all I know about the two types of foundations. Hopefully, using this information, you will be able to decide whether the liquid or powder foundation is better for you.

Benefits of Liquid Foundation

One main advantage of liquid foundations is the coverage. They give the best coverage possible. Liquid foundation can easily reach areas of skin where powder foundation can’t. There’s a huge variety of them around, and you will end up finding the one that works best for your skin and provides the coverage you need.

Liquid foundation also provides a bit of extra moisturizer. This property of liquid foundations is just great for dry skins; especially in the winter when you need a little more moisturizer. Application is also very easy. They are very easy to blend (if using the right brush), and you don’t need to apply a whole lot of product. Just a little bit of it will get the job done. Compared to the finish provided by powder foundation, liquid foundation finish wins by a mile. It results in even finish when applied properly.

One thing that I don’t like about liquid foundations is their ability to clog pores. Most liquid foundations I have come across contain ingredients which are known to clog pores. A mineral oil is just one example. Click here to read more about liquid foundation benefits.

Benefits of Powder Foundation

Now that we have looked at liquid foundation, it’s time to explore powder foundation. Powder foundation is very healthy when compared to liquid foundation. Coverage provided by powder foundation however is not as good as liquid foundation. It also has the ability to soak oil from the skin. Women with dry skin need to be careful when selecting the foundation. Powder foundation may not be the best option for individuals with dry skin. On the other hand, if you have an oily skin, powder foundation can be bliss for you. Throughout your day, powder can take care of the oil, which you carry on with your daily activities. Another good feature of this foundation is that it does not clog pores. Open pores allow the skin to breathe somewhat and get the nutrients flowing in an effective manner. Result is young and healthy looking skin. Once again, if you have oily skin, this foundation is perfect for you. Powder foundation sits really well on oily skins.

If you compare the finish of powder foundation to liquid foundation, powder foundation provides more natural look. It is also a good option if you have acne prone skin, as the liquid foundation may worsen your skin condition. Also, when selecting powder based foundations, select the ones with minerals. They go easy on your skin and provide really smooth texture. Overall, you get a natural looking and even skin-tone.

Conclusion – Liquid vs. Powder Foundation

Which one you choose depends on your skin type and how well the product behaves with your skin. Hope the advantages and disadvantages listed here help you understand liquid and powder foundations. Hopefully, the information provided here helps you decide which kind of foundation best suits your skin. Remember that selecting the best products which work well with your skin, requires experimentation. Over time, as you try different makeup brands, you will come across one that will be the perfect one for you.

Benefits of Liquid Mineral Foundation

If you have used make-up before, then you know how important it is to select the right foundation for your complexion. There are so many brands with different features which make it difficult to select the right liquid mineral foundation. Make-up products of different brands contain different ingredients and provide unique advantages. Mineral and liquid foundations were actually two different products. Now you can obtain a combination of both mineral and liquid. Let’s now discuss some of benefits of liquid mineral foundation.

What is a Foundation?

Foundation is a makeup product that provides coverage to the skin. As a result, it creates a flawless look by masking skin problems, blemishes, scars and even minor acne. It also evens your skin tone to provide the awesome look you desire.

Features of Mineral Foundations

Major feature of mineral foundations is that they go really smooth on your skin because of the minerals they contain. Some of the minerals that are found in these types of foundations are micronized titanium dioxide and silk mica. Former protects your skin from the sun and latter creates the smooth texture.

Compared to traditional liquid foundation, mineral foundations have significant advantage over them. Check out this article for more details about mineral foundations and traditional foundations. Mineral foundations contain minerals alone and no dyes or perfumes. This means that they are perfect for individuals with skin allergies. Moreover, they do not irritate your skin. They do not contain talc and other fillers which trigger such reaction.

Mostly mineral foundations come in the powder form. They are excellent for sheer coverage but not so perfect for hiding wrinkles and other severe imperfections. When buying a mineral foundation, make sure the brand is well known and trusted. There are many brands out there which claim that their foundation is mineral based when in reality it is not.

Features of Liquid Foundations

Major feature of liquid foundation is that it provides extra moisture if needed. This feature is particularly useful for women who have dry skin. Extra moisture helps the make-up stay put and in place on the face.

There are two types of liquid foundation: oil based and water based. So which one should you select when buying foundations? The answer depends on the type of your skin. If your skin is normal or dry, you want the oil-based foundation. On the other hand, if you have oily skin, you should pick water-based foundation. When buying liquid foundation, select the shade that closely resembles your skin color. That will provide the most natural and flawless look.

Benefits of Liquid Mineral Foundation

So this type of foundation includes the benefits listed above for both mineral and liquid foundations. They provide excellent coverage, from sheer to full, depending on your needs. If you are allergic to the traditional types of foundation, then you do not need to worry. You can try this foundation and hopefully not get allergic reaction. Liquid foundations are absolutely perfect for dry skin-types. Another feature of liquid mineral foundations is that they are very easy to apply, using fingers, damp sponge, and liquid foundation brush. Many Kinds of Liquid Foundation Brushes

If you go to your drugstore and look around the cosmetic section, you will find plenty of makeup brushes. There are just so many brands available out there, and they all come in different sizes and shapes. Each and every single type of brush you see out there has its own use. You just have to know which one to use for desired outcome you are looking for.

Although these brushes come in different shapes and sizes, most of them have one thing common; that is they are all made from synthetic fibre. You should also know that brushes aren’t absolutely necessary for applying foundation on your skin. You may also use a sponge (damp or not) or just apply the foundation with your fingers. But most people these days apply foundations with liquid foundation brushes. Have you even seen professionals applying foundation with their fingers? I bet not.

The reason why most people use brushes to apply foundation is because the quality of brushes has evolved significantly over time. We have really good brushes available at our disposal these days. They are very smooth, dense (if needed), don’t absorb makeup products, provide awesome finish, and come with many more features.

Classic Liquid Foundation Brushes

Oval shaped foundation brushes were the common types of brushes that were used in the past. They were also the first ones to be designed. The major different between the brushes of different brands was the stiffness of their synthetic fibres. Some brushes have really soft and some have very stiff fibres. You need to pick a brush that picks up and blends the foundation well with your skin. If it is a soft brush, makeup product won’t be distributed evenly. If the fibres are too stiff, then it may not slide well on your face.

Another thing that is important to consider is the width of the brush. Narrow brushes can reach small areas on the face. Large brushes are commonly used to cover the other parts.

Pointed Foundation Brushes

These types of brushes are modern, and designed to reach all of the different parts of the face. They work really well for the area under your eyes, nose and chin. Another important feature of these brushes is that they blend the foundation perfectly on your face.

Stippling Foundation Brushes

These brushes are modern, new generation, new concept and are absolutely amazing when it comes to applying liquid foundation. The good thing about these brushes is that they are not only good at applying foundation, but also at applying other creamy products, such as primers, highlighters, cream blushes.

If you were looking to achieve airbrushed flawless look, this is the type of brush you want to use. They are composed of two common fibres: natural (black) and synthetic (white). When using this brush, you are gently tapping it on your face (stippling), and not leaving any strokes.

Buffing Brushes

Another new type of foundation brushes, which evolved with the rise of mineral foundations. This kind of brush is dense and has a flat surface. Its purpose is to blend and buff the liquid foundation into skin. It works great for applying liquid foundation and for also applying powder products.

Conclusion

I hope this article helped you understand the different types of brushes that are available out there. There are many parameters that you need to look at when selecting a liquid makeup brush. Makeup brushes come in different sizes, shapes, lengths, type of fibres and their density. I would suggest that you try out different brushes to see which one works best for you.

Decision for selecting the right brush depends on your foundation as well. If you are using a thick and creamy foundation, you would want a brush that is slightly stiffer. This will ensure that you are able to pick, smear and blend the product well into your skin. Same logic goes for light foundations; you want a stippling brush (or similar one with normal fibres) to apply it properly. There you have it, I hope these tips and information helps you pick the best makeup brush for yourself.

Mineral Liquid Foundation vs. Traditional Foundation

Mineral liquid foundations are very popular these days. They seem to be the latest popular product in the cosmetic industry. You can see numerous mineral makeup products being sold at your local supermarket, see them all over the TV commercials, and comes across them in the magazines all the time. There are so many brands that offer minerals cosmetic products. How are they different? And which one is the right one for you? Looking at mineral foundation and traditional foundations, what is the difference? Let’s explore these topic a little bit more. If you are looking for a way to apply liquid foundation, read this article.

Mineral Foundation Ingredients

We know there are many different brands and they all have different marketing strategies to promote their products. They boast about particular speciality to sell their products. But if you look carefully, most of the ingredients found in these different brand mineral foundations are similar. So what are these minerals that are commonly found in these foundations? Well, they are the following: micronized titanium dioxide, iron oxide, micronized zinc oxide, hydrated silica, and silk mica.

Micronized Titanium Dioxide: Protection from Sun

The first ingredient appearing in our list is micronized titanium dioxide. The purpose of this ingredient is to block damaging sun ray and protect your skin. It is commonly found in the sunscreen lotion that we normally use. This mineral has a unique crystalline structure that protects your skin by deflecting harmful rays. Micronized titanium dioxide is not the only one that protects our skin from damaging rays; micronized zinc oxide also has an important and similar role. Both of these minerals provide protection from harmful UVA and UVB rays.

Role of Other Ingredients

In nature, iron oxide is commonly found as a red, orange, or yellow coloured shade. It is added into mineral foundations to help with the skin-tone. Now the hydrated silica and silk mica are used to soften all the other minerals composing the foundation. They make it go easy on the skin, and also provide the natural feel. Silk mica is responsible for the smooth texture it provides, and hydrated silica binds other minerals; as a result it prevents them from getting messy. This is where the brand names try to be creative. They add different vitamins, strong pigments, and skin softeners to make their product unique for marketability.

Benefits of Mineral Makeup

Some people, who encounter many problems with traditional foundations, will find mineral foundation really helpful. Many people with sensitive skin are prone to all kinds of allergies. Normal foundations can trigger them and cause all sorts of complication. Mineral foundation is perfect for such individuals; it doesn’t contain those dyes and perfumes causing allergies.

Talc and other filler ingredient make up a huge portion of normal foundation. The worst thing is that they are well-known to be quite harmful to your skin. Mineral foundation doesn’t have those, and that’s what makes it more desirable. If you have an oily skin, click here to learn how to select appropriate foundation for your skin type.

Mineral foundations are also way more flexible as they have the ability to provide sheer to full coverage. If you want light sheer coverage, just take you foundation brush and apply small amount in small circles. You may also use a sponge (damp) to apply the foundation and achieve opaque coverage. Another major benefit of using mineral liquid foundation vs. the tradition foundation is that it doesn’t clog pores and provides you the coverage you need.

So in conclusion, the ingredients found in most of the brands of mineral makeups are the same. It all comes down to how they market their products. What these brands tend to do is that they cater specific types of skins, and add or remove these common ingredients as necessary.
